Many people already have Gmail accounts from Google, did you know that your Gmail account also gives you access to other Google products like their Social Network called Google+ (Google Plus).
Facebook is a social network focused around friends and family.
LinkedIn is a social network focused on business contacts.
Google+ is centered around interests. Photography, Horses, Star Wars, and yes Amatuer Radio.
Personally I have almost 1000 people in my Ham Radio group in Google+, and I'm a member of many different Communities within G+ like Amateur Radio (10,000+ members), Flex Radio, Summit on the Air, QRP, Digital Modes, etc.
