Karl VE7ZDL (N1DL) was planning to be making his way from Florida to Vernon this year overlanding in a new class-C motorhome.

In preparation for the trip, he was able to register this personalized plate:

With COVID-19 policy current pausing all travel between the USA and Canada, we look forward to having Karl and Fern back in the Okanagan once the crisis has been resolved.

NORAC has organized the donation of several textbooks to the local school district (SD22), in memory of the amateurs of our past, and to benefit the amateurs of our future. We're enjoying an increased interest in amateur radio from our local youth in this year's course, and are attempting to make the opportunity accessible to more youth in the future.

24 caps ordered at the end of March

Here are the Black and Grey samples presented at the Feb 2020 NORAC meeting. These are the open-back version being ordered. The closed-back style was a late request and no samples exist yet.

Working with a local small business we have put together a great offer for a personalized club ball cap.

Starting in April 2020 these custom black or grey ballcaps will be available for online order for anyone interested.

The hats all have a common styling as seen in the photo above. The colors selected are from our club logo. Creating hats with our official club logo was considered but it did not allow for the large easy to read text as seen in our samples.

Hat details

  • Two choices of color - Black or Grey.
  • Two choices of the back on the cap - Open back with a velcro adjustment strap - Closed back in two sizes (S/M or L/XL).
  • Large yellow lettering for your personal callsign (5 or 6 characters).
  • Medium red lettering for your first name.
  • Small white lettering for our club initials N.O.R.A.C.

The price for these hats is being used as a small ongoing fund-raiser for the club. We've set a price that covers our expenses while also donating a small amount to future club activities.

So how much are they?

$25.00 for the open-back design

$35.00 for the closed-back design

Order Your Personalized NORAC Ball Cap

Hi All,

I was unable to personally participate in WFD this year, but many others did.

Check out this notable video of (one of my favourite youtubers) Julian OH8STN's WFD 2020 experience:

Saturday, February 8, 2020 - Vernon, BC
Congrats to the entire team that pulled off a fantastic job with marshalling the parade this morning:
  • Jane VE7WWJ and Michael VE7KPZ
  • Aaren VA7AEJ and Molly
  • David VA7SZ
  • Chris VA7YYC
  • Jerome VE7JAR and son (pictured below)
  • Lindsay VE7LPG
  • Bud VE7KBK
  • Terry VE7TRZ and Nicolas VA7AZZ
  • Ted VE7UIH
  • Karen VE7WBZ and the boys
We had fresh newbies and the old familiar faces, everyone jumped into their jobs and did them well.
I heard nothing but positive feedback afterwards and while using a repeater (VE7EGO) might have been challenging for a couple of handheld radios, the benefit is all the hams in the region got to hear us in action.
Special thanks to Bob VE7EZI and Jane for all the organization work in preparation for this successful event. Jane was also on top of everything today allowing Bob to continue his recovery at home.
Again... hats off to everyone who worked today. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like a perfect amount of people to get the job done as well.
And nobody was complaining about overcast and plus 4 weather, that's perfect for a parade in February.

Aaren VA7AEJ
NORAC President 2017-2020

Ps: With each member volunteering approximately 4 hours of their time, that adds up to around 48 hours of service provided to the community. And then with Bob, Jane and Mike's preparatory time added to that, we're totalling about 60 hours of service.
