After last weeks Sunday Net, NORAC president Bob VE7EZI sent out an email confirming that the property of Ralph Olds' VA7NU in Armstrong will be the site of this year's Field Day.

Ralph offered up his property last month at a Saturday breakfast event, this was followed up by Bob and a few other club members driving out there as the activity of the May Monthly Meeting.

Since that announcement Ralph has hosted visits from multiple club members driving out to check out the site and have a coffee with him.

If you're interested in seeing the spot chosen, you can now go to the NORAC.BC.CA website which features two new postings on the sites front page. One under the Calendar section LINK confirms the dates of the Field Day and includes Bob's original email announcement.

The second article LINK is the first of many News items we'll be posting over the next month. This one is labelled Field Day 2014 - Site Info and includes 3 photos and one link to a large panorama image I took on Friday while visiting the site.

I (Aaren - VA7AEJ) have volunteered to act as the Field Day Coordinator and will be working with Bob to organize and communicate everything related to Field Day over the next month.

If you want to stay in touch with the latest information I suggest that you sign up to the NORAC Yahoo Group email reflector, visit the NORAC website every few days, listen in on the weekly Sunday Net, and mark your calendar now to attend the June 19th Club Meeting, and the June 28-29 Field Day weekend.

Planning so far is as follows.

This is not going to be a public field day event, we are on private property and are planning for a private club event atmosphere of socializing, camp fires, BBQ, and radio fun.

We would probably like to plan a simple dinner meal event for the Friday evening setup crew which would be casual. More importantly we would like a do a larger pot luck BBQ meal on the Saturday afternoon / evening with an open invitation to all club members and their families.

Bob is working with Blake on the paperwork for Cranky – that will get that done this week.

I'm looking for volunteers to take ownership of one single aspect of the Field Day weekend, examples of these duties would include.

  • Setup Crew.
  • Breakdown Crew.
  • Logging – Someone to organize and be responsible for proper computer based logging of each station we operate, and the submission of points on behalf od the club.
  • Antennas - Someone to organize and be responsible for any antenna requirements we have for the club stations.
  • Radios - Someone to organize and be responsible for bringing and setting up the club radios
  • Shelter - Someone to organize and be responsible for shelter for all weather overnight operations (maybe tents, maybe tarps over RV's, etc.)
  • Meals – Someone to organize and be responsible for the Pot Luck meal on Saturday and possibly a simple BBQ for Friday evening.
  • Contest Schedule - Find 24 hours worth of operators.
  • If you don't see it on the list but feel it's important please chime in.

Decisions yet to be made include

  • What class we're going to run (1A or multi stn)
  • How are we going to guy cranky -- are the 'rebar' stakes adequate anchors?

Feel free to use me as a point of contact for any and all Field Day related questions, concerns, and volunteering.

2014-05-23 19 01 39-Google Maps

This is a Google Maps shot of the Field Day site for 2014. The large property in the center is the location. We will be using the top left corner of the grassy green area.

Thanks.
