Mike VE7KPZ and others will be hiking up Little White mountain, SOTA reference VE7/OK-001, POTA reference CA-3863 on July 1, 2025 for repeater maintenance and some radio fun.
Aided by the lidocaine-infused Polysporin (black edition), Mike will aim to hike with his foot that he cut on Field Day just a couple of days before. The hike is only 2.81 km with 397 meters of elevation gain, so hopefully this is achievable without too much pain - lol!
Mike will utilize an Icom ID-50A handheld feeding an Ed Fong j-pole for 2m FM 146.520 as well as a QRPLabs QMX feeding an EFHW for 40m and 20m FT8 (via iFTx) and possibly some SSB at QRP power level (5 watts max).
Operation is expected to start around 11 AM local time (+/- 2 hours) but do listen to the Little White VE7ROC 146.820- T88.5 and SilverStar VE7RSS 146.880- T123.0 repeaters for local spots of when the SOTA/POTA operation starts. It would be neat to get 4 QSOs for SOTA/10 QSOs for POTA on 2m FM so that HF operation is bonus.
